Blog Post Assignment #2
In a well written paragraph explain the view from your bedroom window. If the view from your window is less than interesting, describe your home and/or neighborhood. Use strong imagery and as many Radical Revisions writing tools as possible. The purpose of this assignment is to practice your own writing skills while giving the students from Langa, South Africa  insight into life in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, USA.

Outside my bedroom window the view is obstructed by a large cherry blossom shrub, it stretches the length of my house plus some. The cherry blossoms have a short period of blooming in the spring but in that short month it is a beautiful sight. In the fall the branches shed the blossoms and leaves to transform into a tangle of thin twigs. In the winter the shrub droops and hangs from the weight of the heavy snow, the cold winter also brings icicles that hang from my house's shingles about an arms reach away. When spring comes again with calm storms the icicles melt and drip away, the rain transforms my outdoor view into a waterfall. If you you look down, a river forms from the eroding dirt around my house's foundation

When I look out my bedroom window I see other houses. Off in the distance I see the lights from the Iron Mountain Bat Cave, along with street lights on the main road that I live by. In my yard there is a huge oak tree with leaves changing colors and about to fall. I live with my mother and brother(he is 5 years old). We each have our own room. The duplex is split down the middle so I live right net to my neighbor. In my back yard I have a fire pit, a trampoline, a shed for our bikes, and a swing set for my brother and his friends who come over to play. About 400 meters away from my house is a park. I live 1600 meters away from Kingsford High School, I either ride the bus that the school provides or I walk. I live in town, but not directly downtown. When I look outside my bedroom window I don't only see my yard I see where I visit my friends, where I practice cheers for cheerleading, where my family has a weekend bonfire to relax from the hard week.

My bedroom is on the first floor of my three story house. I see many thing out my window and these things consist of a wide variety of trees, the trees are maple, poplar, pine, oak, and cedar. I also see my trampoline and a lot of wildlife, some of the wild life I see out of my window are: white tailed deer, squirrels, many different species of birds, and my two dogs. In the winter months I see a thick, sparkling, blanket of snow. I also see snowmobiles and four wheelers driving around in the winter. My house is called a log cabin, it is built out of large trees that are stripped of their bark and cut with flat tops and bottoms to be stacked onto one another. That is what I see out of my window and what my house looks like.

The view from my living room window is my neighbor's house across the street and their front yard. You can also see the road that people drive on, although not very many cars drive down that road, many a couple every hour. My house is 3 stories, the basement, the main floor, that has the living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms, and the attic. There is an indoor front porch that goes mostly around my house and is mostly all windows, you can see our front yard and as you walk around the corner on the porch you can see the back ally that kids ride their bikes a lot. The view from my living room window is the my neighbor's house across the street and their front yard. When I'm sitting in my bedroom on the second floor of my green house, it's very quiet in the town. I see many colorful things. I see leaves on the trees changing colors from green to yellow or orange. There is a maple tree right outside my bedroom window which is purple. I watch cars and trucks go past my house. There are always two trucks parked outside, they are purple and black. Across the street there are other houses that are green and white. I see many dogs walking past also, they're all different sizes. That is what I see when I look outside my bedroom window.

The view from my bedroom window is a very nice view of our back yard. We have a nice big garden, full of fruit and vegetables. We have a big yard with long green grass. We have a clothesline in our back yard, were we can hang up our close in the summer-time. We have 4 trees in our yard, on of them being an apple tree. Every year we take the bad apples and give them to our grandfather, se he can feed them to the deer. We have a big deck with a charcoal grill right in front. Also in my view is the many bird feeders that my grandma put up all over the yard. I see many birds outside of my window, my favorite bird is they blue jay.

When I look outside my bedroom window their are many different things. Their are two apple trees and a couple others. Sometimes you can see my dogs in the back yard. The house across the street from me is vary big and has a blue roof, and a red door, and a huge garden. The house next to mine is a smaller brick house and a small back yard. My house is a white two story house with a big back yard. It had three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a basement. I have a vary large room with a walk in closet and is painted like you are on vacation.

Looking out from my bedroom window which consists of two stories, I see my brown fence designed into a square around my backyard. A 96 blue cavalier sitting next to the garage that is behind my fence. There is a new black cage for the dogs on the left side of my yard followed by the neighbors house. Behind the cavalier and the garage is an alley way stretching side to side. Looking to my left, I see my a black fire pit along with a picnic table up against the fence. Towards the back of the view, I see a tree in the neighbors yard across the alley, and few houses stretching back underneath the blue sky.

When I look outside the window in my living room I can see the park that I live across the street from. The area of town that I live in is mainly surrounded by houses, the stores are maybe 5-15 minutes away so you don't really see much except for houses, cars, and the park. My house is two stories high, and has four bedrooms. I don't have much of a back yard, my step dad uses most of the space to work on his car and truck. And the houses are kind of close together, not much space in between. I have a basement too, and it's kind of creepy, like one of those basements

Mrs. Sutton's English 10 Class Kingsford, Michigan USA

We are a sophomore English class of 28 students. (One of us is a foreign exchange student from Italy.) Most of us are 15 or 16 years old.

We live in Kingsford, MI, a small rural town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our school, Kingsford High School, has a population of about 650 students. Most of the students in our school come from middle class backgrounds of Caucasian descent. Our school's mascot is a Flivver car because in the early 1900's, these Ford cars were mass produced  in our part of Michigan.  Our town is named after Edwin G. Kingsford, one of the leaders of the Ford Motor Company.

One of the main employers in our area is Verso, a paper mill. Other large employers are the Dickinson County Hospital and a hospital for military veterans called the Oscar G. Johnson Medical Center.

Because we live where snow covers the ground seven months of the year, most of us know how to ski, snow shoe, ice fish, snowmobile, and ice skate. Those of us who don't like winter sports enjoy the warmer months of the year by swimming in the lakes and rivers, hunting or fishing in the woods, hiking on trails, or just hanging out in town with our friends.

At our school, we can participate in many sports like football, soccer, tennis, volleyball, track, cross-country, basketball, and softball. We can also join all sorts of school activities like student council, drama, choir, band, class government, and so much more! Those of us who don't like sports or school activities spend our free time playing video games, listening to music, and shopping.
